About Us

Centennial School District proudly serves its diverse student population of our English Language Learners (ELLs) who represent over 12% of our student population and speak over 38 different languages.  Our English Language Development (ELD) program supports students and their families for whom English is not their first language/home language, using the PA standards framework WIDA* that aligns language development standards for K-12 multilingual learners to:

  • Increase English language proficiency through the instructional alignment of the PA Academic and English Language Development Standards

  • Guide English Learners (ELs) toward gaining knowledge and skills socially, culturally, and academically to meet the needs of language learners

  • Assist in the identification and instructional placement of ELs through the administration of required federal, state, and local policies, procedures, guidance, and assessments

  • Collaborate with parents, colleagues, school personnel, and other appropriate individuals regarding the educational needs of English learners.

The CSD English Language Development department consists of 13 highly qualified, skilled, and passionate ELD teachers spanning our elementary, middle, and high school. CSD provides translation services to students and families and additional ELD support staff to assist with instructional support. CSD is also committed to the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework if our English learners require more opportunities to achieve their language and literacy goals.
